All ages are welcome! Joyful teaching for joyful music making!
The teaching philosophy that Darlene employs is tailored to each musician according to level of skill, personal goals and genre preferences. The approach to each person is unique, supportive and technically based on sound principals she has learned from master teachers in the field of music. A balance is sought between technical skill and musical expression to enable the student to sing or play the music they love without the burden of technical blocks and impediments. This work is inherently physical and holistic for any performing artist!
Elements of lessons may include:
Study of basic musicianship skills such as reading musical notation
Understanding how compositions are structured, i.e. musical style
Foreign language diction and meaning
Acting and movement skills
Individual research as needed
Darlene began teaching singing privately during graduate study at the University of Michigan and continued after completing post-graduate study at The Juilliard School in New York City. In addition to her private studio, Darlene was an Assistant Adjunct Professor of Voice at Westminster Choir College and Piano Instructor at the Grace Church School, NYC. Darlene worked with several music community music schools in Long Island offering Voice and Piano instruction, in addition to her private studio.
